About this Event
Add to calendarToday, people are living longer. According to the U.S. Census, in 2030, all Baby Boomers will be 65 years or older. Have you ever wondered what contributes to living a longer life? Have you ever heard of the term Blue Zones? Blue Zones are areas with lower rates of chronic diseases and a longer life expectancy. Diet, fasting, and exercise are factors correlated with Blue Zones health status. There are 5 Blue Zones in the world- Italy, Greece, Japan, Costa Rica, and Loma Linda California. As aging comes, chronic diseases are becoming more and more prevalent in old age. While genetics somewhat determines your lifespan, your genes are not your destiny. Epigenetics tells us that our environment influences our genes by changing the chemicals attached to them. However, what we eat, our physical activity, access to resources, and more impact those chemicals in shaping our overall health. Overall, the use of Lifestyle Medicine was used for many years in Blue Zones before it was coined a science. Join The Lifestyle Medicine Community, as Guest Speaker, Mark Hammond, MD, discusses the secrets of Blue Zones.
