My proposed active program for this semester will be an Origami Night with an emphasis on Japanese Culture. This will be a physically engaging way to learn about the culture of Japan and introduce residents to that craft of origami. Thus, it will ultimately help students in recognizing differences in thoughts by engaging in meaningful dialogue through civility and respect (ENGAGE). Likewise, it will help residents become a global citizen through cultural awareness and development by recognizing the existence of cultural differences (EXPLORE). This would take place in the 7th floor lounge and I will need tables, origami paper, and am requesting food from Swen or small appetizers from Ajian (ex: miso soup, edamame, etc.). Lastly, I will want to print handouts that describe some origami figurines residents can make as I play traditional Japanese music in the background. This will be open building-wide to increase resident engagement.
