Making Campus Events Happen: Practical Planning for Faculty & Staff is a workshop for faculty and staff who find themselves planning campus events without formal training. This session explores why event planning on campus is more complex than it first appears, challenges people often encounter, and key rules around reserving space, securing approvals, and promoting safety.

Participants will learn directly from a panel of campus Event Professionals about the basics of permits, communications, funding, vendors, logistics, and risk considerations, along with what’s expected before, during and after an event. The workshop concludes with essential takeaways and campus resources to help attendees plan events more confidently and avoid common pitfalls.

Course Objectives:

  • Identify key campus policies, processes, and approvals required to plan and host events.
  • Recognize common event planning challenges and risk considerations and apply strategies to avoid them.
  • Use campus resources and professional contacts effectively to plan, execute, and close out events with confidence.
