n collaboration with the Moundville Archaeological Park, the Intercultural Diversity Center will continue its Food for Thought series in commemoration of Native American Heritage Month. This monthly installment features a special beadwork demonstration by Ms. Laretta Weaver. Laretta Weaver is an enrolled citizen of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma who resides in the MOWA Choctaw community north of Mobile, Alabama. A tireless advocate of promoting Native American language and culture, she volunteered for many years with Calcedeaver Elementary School helping MOWA Choctaw students to learn about their cultural heritage and organizing a Choctaw dance team there. Laretta is considered by many to be the finest Southeastern Indian bead smith in Alabama. Knowing virtually every method of beading, she often incorporates her beadwork with cast sterling silver to make one of a kind jewelry. Food for Thought will take place on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at 12pm in the Intercultural Diversity Center (2100 Student Center). Participants can register at https://tinyurl.com/deiprograms.
