From the curator, Emily Bibb: “We are very excited to bring new paintings by Cedric Smith to the Jones Museum. We have two works by Smith in the Paul R. Jones Collection already that showcase American culture and Black Americana using a mix of painting and collage. This new body of work deepens that focus on Blacks’ contributions to American culture and mythology with attention on Black cowboys and jockeys. When Smith visits Tuscaloosa later this fall as part of the Paul R. Jones Lecture Series,” Bibb added, “We’re looking forward to hosting him and hearing more about this new direction in his work.”
