Drawn from the Water is an exhibit at the Alabama Museum of Natural History that allows visitors to view select highlights of Joseph R. Tomelleri’s original drawings of Alabama fishes. Uniquely displayed alongside specimens of the same species, this exhibition gives visitors a chance to compare the actual specimen with its from-life drawing. Some highlights include the alligator gar, the Southeastern blue sucker, and the Alabama Cavefish, of which only around 100 individuals still exist in the wild. Explore the vibrancy our state, which has the highest diversity of freshwater fish species in the country, through the merging of art and science.

See the exhibit now through April 3, 2026!
