Sometimes students forget what they’ve learned almost as soon as they learn it. Sometimes their learning stays with them well beyond the course itself and has long-lasting effects. According to L. Dee Fink (2013), “significant learning” is learning that actually changes a student’s personal, social, civic or professional life. This seminar is designed to empower University faculty with strategies to create significant learning experiences. We will explore how to align learning outcomes, teaching methods and assessments to foster deeper understanding, critical thinking and lifelong learning in students.
