DESCRIPTION:Presenter: Dr. Carlos E. Alemán is deputy director of the Hisp
 anic Interest Coalition of Alabama (¡HICA!). Prior to joining ¡HICA!\, A
 lemán was a professor of Latin American history at Samford University. He
  serves on the board of directors for the Birmingham Civil Rights Institut
 e\, Red Mountain Park\, and the Literacy Council of Central Alabama. In Au
 gust\, he was elected to the Homewood\, Alabama City Council. A first gene
 ration immigrant from Nicaragua\, Alemán grew up in San Francisco. He rec
 eived his BA in History and Latin American/Latino Studies from UC Santa Cr
 uz and his PhD in History from Michigan State University.
