UA BFSA to host 2021 Juneteenth Observance, June 10th, 2021, and June 14th, 2021 at 6:00 pm CT (Same time on both Dates)
Dr. Reynaldo Anderson, a Communication Studies and Africana Studies scholar, serves as Associate Professor of Communication Studies at Harris-Stowe State University in Saint Louis, Missouri. Reynaldo is currently the Executive Director and co-founder of the Black Speculative Arts Movement (BSAM), an international network of artists, intellectuals, creatives, and activists.
Dr. Cynthia K. Gooch Grayson is the Associate Vice President for Equity and Inclusion at Metropolitan Community College, Nebraska’s largest community college system. Native Omahan Dr. Gooch-Grayson earned her Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration and Leadership from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She received her master’s degree in Family and Mental Health Counseling at the University of the District of Columbia, a small, public HBCU in our nation's capital, and a bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Mrs. Opal Lee for 40 years along with the help of many others, strives every year to keep and expand the celebration of our “Day of Freedom” on June 19, 1865, when slaves in Texas found out they were free. There are 47 states that recognize Juneteenth as a state holiday
