View map Free Event Add to calendarThe Alabama Lectures on Life’s Evolution (ALLELE) seminar series (http://evolution.ua.edu/) is entering its 19th year! We are thrilled to be hosting Dr. Mansi Srivastava (https://oeb.harvard.edu/people/mansi-srivastava) from Harvard University who will give an in-person seminar titled "On the origins of stem cells and regeneration" at the University of Alabama on September 19th at 7:30 PM in North Lawn Hall 2008!
Dr. Srivastava is a Professor in the Department of Organismic and Evolutionary Biology and a Curator of Invertebrate Zoology in the Museum of Comparative Zoology. She and her team study the evolution of regeneration using the three-banded panther worm, a representative of the earliest-branching lineage of animals with bilateral body symmetry, which they have developed into a laboratory model system. Her fascinating work on these animals, which can regenerate most of their body after injury, is shedding light on the evolution of mechanisms underlying regeneration.
Dr. Srivastava is an incredibly gifted and engaging science communicator who gives a great talk! If you are interested in evolution, developmental biology, weird animals, and biomedical science, you do not want to miss this one!
